After the proposal was unanimously welcomed by the Supervisory Board, Annemie Vanackere, artistic director and managing director of HAU Hebbel Ufer, and Ricardo Carmona have extended the existing contract, which appoints Carmona as Artistic Director of the International Festival Tanz im August, until 2027.

Ricardo Carmona says about his extension:

"It was a great honor to take over the artistic direction of Tanz im August, such a renowned and historic festival, in 2023. Its program has always been characterized by a great openness, it was important to me to maintain this. In view of the current multiple crises, I believe it is essential to create spaces in which different transcultural perspectives can be seen and discussed. I am very pleased to be able to continue this for another two years and grateful for the trust have placed in me.”

Good news: The festival dates for Tanz im August 2025 have been confirmed!

The 37^th International Festival Berlin will take place this year from 13^th to 30^th of August. Save the date!

The wars continue, the climate crisis shows no signs of abating and democracies are beginning to falter again: The multiple crises of our time continue to have us firmly in their grip. Mutual understanding, encounters and dialog are more important than ever – especially in the realms of art and culture.

We still need open spaces in which different perspectives can be visualised and discussed. We want to work towards this also in 2025. Our solidarity goes out to all institutions, initiatives and projects in all areas of society which are affected by the cuts. 18 productions were shown at 10 venues – 3 world premieres, 10 German premieres, and 7 Berlin and international co-productions with a total of 46 performances.

With ticket sales at 97% and 18.500 visitors, the festival was able to build on the successes of previous years – with much positive resonance from its very wide and diverse audience.

Tanz im August was visited by 600 professionals from the national and international dance scene. 95 regional, national, and international journalists were accredited this year.
