13th International Festival Berlin
10.8. – 2.9.2001
From creatively chaotic beginnings in 1988, Tanz im August has developed into a festival with international flair. The list of artists and groups who have performed here reads like a ‘who's who’ of contemporary dance. Large, influential companies have shown the wide range of creative possibilities offered by the medium of dance today while younger more experimental artists continue to confront a growing audience with the vitality and often provocative diversity of their work. It has always been our goal to support productions made in Berlin by providing artists with a professional and creative working environment in the city. This requires adequate and secure funding for Tanzfest, which unfortunately still has not been achieved up to now.
Despite these difficulties, this year's festival has an impressive array of premières and artistic highlights to offer. We hope that this will provide the most convincing argument for the secure future of this important Berlin event. We look forward to welcoming you at Tanzfest 2001.
