Performance | Panoramix (1993–2003)

Her project “Distinguished Pieces” made Spanish choreographer La Ribot a key figure within the international contemporary dance and live art scenes. The work consists of short solos that divide their discourse into parts which are ordered into independent sequences. In 2003 the first 34 “Distinguished Pieces” were presented as one long performance under the title “Panoramix” as part of Live Culture at the Tate Modern, London. It is a panorama of the first ten years of La Ribot’s acclaimed ongoing project. Lasting three hours “Panoramix” is a hybrid of exhibition, contemporary dance and experimental performance. As La Ribot’s actions, poses and objects accumulate, a spatialised memory begins to form.

Born in Madrid in 1962 and now based in Geneva, La Ribot is a choreographer, dancer, director and visual artist; a radically multidisciplinary creator. Her work has its origins in movement, the body, and her own background in dance, to which she adds other practices, systems and materials as they become necessary. From the beginning of her career her work has included live performance, video, speech, sign language, found art, installations and ‘relational’ works. She has involved different communities in her performances and videos, both professional colleagues and people with no experience in the world of art.

 

Her works have been presented at the Tate Modern, London, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, the Panorama Festival, Rio de Janeiro, Impulstanz, Vienna and Art Basel. She was awarded the Spanish National Dance Prize in 2000 and The Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts in 2016 by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.

    The Kantine is at ground level and accessible without steps. The Festsaal (1st floor) and Hochzeitssaal (3rd floor) can be reached via an elevator (1.76 m x 2.71 m) when accompanied by the house staff. To use the elevator please contact our evening staff. The distance from the street to the elevator is approx. 60 m.

    An accessible toilet (entrance door 1m in width) is available on the 1st floor and can be reached via the elevator. It can be accessed via the Festsaal foyer. For events in the Hochzeitssaal there is a WC on the 3rd floor with an entrance and cabin door 81 cm wide, the other cabin doors are 56 cm wide. From the 3rd floor as well as from the ground floor you can reach the accessible WC on the 1st floor by using the elevator.
