Isabelle Schad

The Shift of Focus

In “The Shift of Focus” the dancer and choreographer Isabelle Schad turns her attention to relocations of the centre of gravity, and metaphorically to changes in perception and perspective. In a soft-floored mobile landscape of floating canvases, fifteen performers configure themselves between protagonist and chorus, archetype and natural forces, stage machinery and marionette. Alternating between flying and being flown, pulling and being pulled, carrying and being carried, their roles seem endlessly reversible. Lightness is the answer to gravity here – and to life. A pull of hybrid connections gradually develops, interweaving bodies, movement and material, poetry and humour, voice and sound, mutual care and the wild flow of a group in motion.
